Blogger-Councilman’s Solution To Policemen Organizing? Abolish Them!

There aren’t that many things that you can count on in life, but one of them seems to be that you can always count on Macon, GA, city councilman and RedState.com editor Erick Erickson to say and do ridiculous things.
Take this newest post of his over at Peach Pundit, a Georgia-based blog:
I May Need To Draft Legislation by Erick on September 29, 2009To shut down the Macon Police Department.
About 130 Macon police officers have expressed interest in forming a union in the wake of rising insurance costs, loss of incentive pay and the city’s failure to put a pay scale in place.
Police Sgt. Steve Draper said word spread after a group of 18 officers had meetings with the Teamsters’ Law Enforcement League over the past several months.
I’m thinking I’ll have the City Attorney draft me legislation to dissolve the police department and contract with the Sheriff to provide public safety services.
You didn’t read that incorrectly. Councilman Erickson’s response to the possibility of Macon’s cops forming a labor union is to abolish the police department. It’s like the sort of ideas floating around at the extremes of the right wing blogosphere have some how emerged into reality in the form of Erick’s legislative ideas. Really awful stuff.

Really awful indeed! But hey every elected official things of himself as the next Reagan. Our air traffic control system has yet to recover from Reagan’s firing of them, if I were a criminal the first thing I would be doing is planning a trip to Macon in the very near future if Councilman Erickson gets his way!
The should read “every Republican elected official”.
Good points!
