‘Dragon Age Origins’ Swings Both Ways

LGBT groups all over the country are praising Bioware’s Dragon Age Origins as a step forward for video games, as in the RPG players are given the option of many romantic paths, one of them being a gay relationship between the male lead character and another male member of the party, a sprightly elf. What, like they were going to make the dwarf gay?

I’ve embedded the “sex scene” above, which also has lesbian and straight counterparts, along with a woman-on-gay-elf option, whatever that equals out to. Despite the game’s M rating for brutal violence, the sex scenes are decidedly PG-13 as the most you’ll see is a few digital people in their underwear kissing each other’s shoulders. This is a step forward for the LGBT community to be sure, but I still can’t quite wrap my head around why even game who “boldly” tackle the issue of sex do it with such hesitation.

And in other news, Dragon Age Origins completely sucks as a game. Yeah, I said it.

    About Me

After rising to blogging fame as the University of Michigan's answer to Gossip Girl, I took the EIC job at a student blog network spreading my wealth of college experience across the nation. My passion project is a movie/tv/gaming site called Unreality and I'm a movie news editor at JoBlo.com. I'm new to this business, and I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely. When I started out, I had zero idea blogging could be a career, but I've learned more in the last ten months than I did in four years of college. What exactly did I major in again?
