Teen Calls Police to Report Parents Confiscating Xbox

It’s one of the stories that just kind of makes you cock your head to the side and say, “really?” In case the title wasn’t clue enough, here’s what recently happened near Chicago:

A Buffalo Grove teen was having fun, fun, fun until his parents took his video game system away.

So the unhappy 15-year-old dialed 911 around 12:50 p.m. Sunday to complain to police about his parents confiscating his Microsoft Xbox 360 as punishment.

“The Xbox caper started out as a 911 hang-up call,” Buffalo Grove police Cmdr. Steve Husak said.

Police traced the call and sent an officer to the house where the teen inquired whether his parents had a legal right to take away his system.

Police then “advised him that he needed to listen to his parents,” police reports said.

There’s no indication of why the video game system was taken away or what the teen was playing. The Xbox, along with other up-to-date video game systems, include parental controls which can lock the system and prevent a child from playing.

If I can’t figure out how to get to parental control setting on an Xbox, I’m pretty sure actual parents are going to have no idea, so they’ll most likely stick to the ‘ol “rip it out of the wall and hide the cables” tactic that’s worked so well all these years.

As for calling the police? I see a future member of the ACLU, but he’s quickly learning the lesson that government exists to help those more powerful than you.

    About Me

After rising to blogging fame as the University of Michigan's answer to Gossip Girl, I took the EIC job at a student blog network spreading my wealth of college experience across the nation. My passion project is a movie/tv/gaming site called Unreality and I'm a movie news editor at JoBlo.com. I'm new to this business, and I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely. When I started out, I had zero idea blogging could be a career, but I've learned more in the last ten months than I did in four years of college. What exactly did I major in again?
