Dropped ‘Starcraft’ Connection Sparks Random Stabbing in Sweden

starcraft-hydraThis is a sad story that comes out of the usually peaceful Sweden, where an 18 year-old guy stabbed a 15 year-old girl. The reason? His internet connection cut out during a game of Starcraft, sending him into a blind rage where he grabbed a butcher knife, ran out the door and stabbed some random girl walking by.

Authorities apprehended him, and the girl is expected to recover, despite multiple wounds. Where he’s going, there is sure as shit not going to be any LAN parties, I can tell you that. I’m sure “I stabbed a little girl because the internet connection dropped during my Zerg rush” isn’t exactly a prison story that’s going to go over well.

Even though this is a scary situation, I would advise people against adding this to their “video games corrupt absolutely” arugment file. Yes, the physical catalyst of the attack was something related to the game. But it’s like blaming the automotive industry when a guy snaps and stabs someone after getting a parking ticket. This guy obviously needs intense help, as it simply is not a normal reaction to literally try to kill someone when a video game does not go your way.

All the best to the girl in her recovery.

    About Me

After rising to blogging fame as the University of Michigan's answer to Gossip Girl, I took the EIC job at a student blog network spreading my wealth of college experience across the nation. My passion project is a movie/tv/gaming site called Unreality and I'm a movie news editor at JoBlo.com. I'm new to this business, and I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely. When I started out, I had zero idea blogging could be a career, but I've learned more in the last ten months than I did in four years of college. What exactly did I major in again?
