Playing ‘Halo 3′ with Gamertag ‘xxxGayBoyxxx’ Yields Expected Results

What you’re about to witness is entirely unsurprising, yet ultimately sad. A gay Halo 3 player had the balls to actually make his Gamertag reflect who he was, a gay boy. Since “GayBoy” was taken, he padded the name with “xxx” which is a common practice in the game, and started playing and recording his experiences. From this video we see the thought process of Microsoft’s original decision to ban “gay terminology” from Gamertags, which caused an uproar some time ago. Not to say that it’s right to cave in to the prejudiced, but the results speak for themselves.

Xbox Live is without a doubt one of the most obnoxious and homophobic communities I’ve ever encoutered. My Gamertag is “JohnnyQuest18″ and I’ve been called gay, a fag, and of course, the double whammy “gay fag” for any number of reasons, from saying “veto,” to killing someone, to not killing someone, to being killed by someone, to taking someone’s weapon. The list is endless. But an actual gay gamer who sounds gay and has a gay Gamertag? It’s homophobiaggedon.

This isn’t a Microsoft problem so much as it is a general issue with 10-20 year old boys as a whole, but it’s clear there’s no greater place to witness the sheer hatred and ignorance that still exists in our country than in the lobby of a Halo 3 game.

Your post reminds me of an article on modern males problems with homosexuality (and all sex really). The article talks about fraternities, but you can replace “fraternity” with “gaming community” (which fits, as xbox players are mostly single young men).

I know the article is long, but the end is worth it!

Good article! The only difference is a lot of the “gay fag” name callers on Xbox Live are likely still a decade away from when they’ll actually be having sex with anyone.

That was a very interesting article Fruzsina…

However, like the juvenile minds that harass fellow players on Halo, those frat guys thinking themselves manly for being misogynists and screaming faggot at the first sight of a rainbow is quite the puerile delusion. It’s faux masculinity. It’s a farce – a facade.

A real man has the balls to stand up to a mountain of peer pressure and use the name “xxxGayBoyxxx” knowing full well that it means no end of being attacked by assholes lacking in enough sophistication to have an independent thought (or even an original idea – fag jokes are so tired.)

GayBoys of the world can at least take some comfort in that the ’straight’ ones that scream the loudest are often the most tortured souls; who are in fact strongly attracted to the same sex and use their vendetta against open gays as a visible protest to detract from any suspicion against themselves. I mean hell, it’s become somewhat of a joke that the staunchest Republican queer-hating ‘Family Values’ proponents usually end up being outed as not only gay but usually kinky on the level of liking much younger (Mark Foley) or Meth fueled orgies (Ted Haggard.) Those are by no means isolated incidents; rather, they are indicative of the inside-out hypocrisy that makes up this Great Nation.

I play Xbox all the time. and the same comments are made to everyone, not just gays. “t-bagging” is a halo tradition where you kill a person and then crouch/stand repeateadly over their head. I’ve heard worse. and Im not all mad over it. If you cant handle 15 year olds talking smack just blow your noodle out.

    About Me

After rising to blogging fame as the University of Michigan's answer to Gossip Girl, I took the EIC job at a student blog network spreading my wealth of college experience across the nation. My passion project is a movie/tv/gaming site called Unreality and I'm a movie news editor at JoBlo.com. I'm new to this business, and I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely. When I started out, I had zero idea blogging could be a career, but I've learned more in the last ten months than I did in four years of college. What exactly did I major in again?
