Guantanamo Bay: The Game – What Could Go Wrong?

Man, The Sims is really getting dark huh?
I’m all for defending criticism of video games wherever and whenever possible, but even I am caught speechless when I hear things like “UK developer T-Enterprise developing a game based around Guantanamo Bay.” Really guys? Really?
Granted, the game is told from the perspective of an ill-treated prisoner who gets revenge on his captors (who are mercenaries, not the US Army, obviously) and escapes from the prison. That’s all well and good, but it’s about as tasteful as it would be to make a game based around the Virginia Tech massacre where you play a student fighting back against the rampaging killer. It’s not really about which side you’re on, it’s about the concept as a whole, which in both cases is a terrible, terrible idea.
T-Enterprise is bringing in an actual former Guantanamo prisoner, Moazzam Begg, who spent three years in the prison, to do consulting for the game. There is actually a trailer for the game, called Rendition: Guantanamo, which is here, and in addition to being a bad idea, it just looks poorly developed. I’m not sure if Mr. Begg will appreciate his horrific experiences reduced to what appears to be Nintendo Gamecube graphics and pixelated blood.
So what’s a worse idea, this or the recently killed Six Day in Fallujah?

[...] The Guantanamo Bay video game has clearly been well thought out – [Double Kill] [...]
I’m saving my money for ‘CIA Black Site: The Game.’
I’ll hold out for the sequel…Post-War PTSD: The Never-ending Journey.
