Little Mac Gets Rocky-fied in Wii ‘Punch-Out!!’ Documentary

[kaltura-widget wid="72giv8j0z2" width="600" height="507" addpermission="2" editpermission="2" align="center" /]

This is a bit of clever marketing I wouldn’t really expect from Nintendo. It’s a short minute and half long documentary chronicling the comeback of Punch Out’s famed Little Mac, down and out after a loss to King Hippo fifteen years ago.

The cast is great, as Little Mac is spot on, and Doc is pretty excellent as well (fans of The Wire might recognize him). Hopefully Nintendo will make a few more of these, and we’ll get to see some of the other characters in live-action form also.

Punch Out (sorry Punch-Out!!) comes out in a week on May 18th, so dust off your Wiimotes and prepare to be physically exhausted after ten minutes of play.

I can’t wait for this game. Snazzy new animation and graphics aside, it looks like the gameplay is largely going to be the same. I could never make it past Super Macho Man in the Mike Tyson version, so I’m hoping this version is equally as challenging and fun. My problem with a lot of sports games coming out on next gen consoles is that they’re taking it to a level of complexity that goes beyond what we had on PS2 and XBox, which takes away from some of the enjoyment. Hopefully, this Wii offering is a good balance.

I could never beat Mike Tyson either, but I gotta say that nothing was ever more fun than punching King Hippo in the belly button.

    About Me

After rising to blogging fame as the University of Michigan's answer to Gossip Girl, I took the EIC job at a student blog network spreading my wealth of college experience across the nation. My passion project is a movie/tv/gaming site called Unreality and I'm a movie news editor at JoBlo.com. I'm new to this business, and I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely. When I started out, I had zero idea blogging could be a career, but I've learned more in the last ten months than I did in four years of college. What exactly did I major in again?
