Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ filmed in England, visitors invited to tour grounds of UK National Trust site in Cornwall
Fans of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which opened in theaters on March 5, will be able to spend time in the gardens of Antony, a UK National Trust site where the movie was partially filmed.
Located in Torpoint in Cornwall, Antony is a “classically beautiful house, a beguiling mixture of the formal and informal.” Although the Carew Pole family still resides in Antony, some of the grounds and gardens are open to the public, and this year the garden is being transformed in honor of the Walt Disney film.
Alice related events and activities are planned, and visitors will be able to enjoy a unique and quirky Alice in Wonderland Experience; discover Alice’s bedroom; and visit the exhibition and installations in the garden.
Other Alice in Wonderland locales in Cornwall include the Charlestown Harbour, which was also the location for two other movies: The Eagle Has Landed (1976) and Moll Flanders (1996). The 2007 TV movie Treasure Island was also partially filmed at Charlestown Harbour.
Another spot in England where Alice in Wonderland was filmed is Plymouth Barbican in Devon. This is the historical site from where Sir Francis Drake sailed; the Pilgrims departed from here to settle the New World (the Mayflower Steps); and the Brits danced in defiance of Hitler’s Luftwaffe.
Here is the official trailer for Alice in Wonderland. And Alice mania is everywhere! Brit Stella McCartney has designed an Alice in Wonderland charm bracelet ($395) and charm necklace ($425).
