For the second time in three years, Spokane has been the host city for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. I just spent three days in Washington state’s Lilac City, attending the Senior Men’s Short Program and a portion of the Senior Pairs Free Skate.

In the end, after competing both in the Senior Men’s Short Program and Free Skate, the top three winners were Jeremy Abbott, Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir. Click on Weir’s name to read a story by ESPN’s Jim Caple — it includes a video of Caple and Weir having pedicures together in Manhattan.

Serving as headquarters for the event is the The Davenport Hotel, where many of the skaters stayed in 2007 and again in 2010. The championships, Jan. 14-24, will determine the dozen ice skating athletes who will compete at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, BC.

    About Me

I'm a professional freelance writer and photographer who has been in the journalism 'biz since 1988. I live on a small farm on an island in Puget Sound with my husband, chickens, turkeys and our very own field of dreams. When I'm not packing and unpacking from exploring the seven continents (yup, I've done 'em all), I enjoy theater, movies, jazz, fine food, heavenly spas and long dinner parties with my family and friends. Oh, I grew up in the '60s and I sort of remember it through the haze.
