Katy Perry, Russell Brand in Santa Barbara

I’m staying at the The Biltmore, a Four Seasons Resort in Santa Barbara, and peeps are tweeting about Katy Perry and beau Russell Brand checking in on Sunday. I thought I knew who Katy Perry was, but Googled her just to make sure. And I’d never heard of Russell Brand. Turns out he’s a comedian from the UK and has been dating the 25-year-old pop singer (I Kissed a Girl) since September. She just celebrated her birthday in Hollywood.

I don’t think I’ll go ga-ga if I do see them; it’s funny that they’re staying here, as this is where Katy Perry was born and raised “by Christian pastor parents and grew up listening only to gospel music.” (Wikipedia).

The Four Seasons Biltmore is a beautiful Spanish Colonial style property, built in 1927. Early this morning, I heard the whistle of the Coast Starlight, as it’s done for the past 79 years. The hotel even provides ear plugs, but I love the sound of a train passing by in the night.

    About Me

I'm a professional freelance writer and photographer who has been in the journalism 'biz since 1988. I live on a small farm on an island in Puget Sound with my husband, chickens, turkeys and our very own field of dreams. When I'm not packing and unpacking from exploring the seven continents (yup, I've done 'em all), I enjoy theater, movies, jazz, fine food, heavenly spas and long dinner parties with my family and friends. Oh, I grew up in the '60s and I sort of remember it through the haze.
