Looking for a personal skin trainer? Vancouver day spa employs skin athletes

Vancouver's Yaletown is home to skoah.

Vancouver's Yaletown is home to skoah.

One of Vancouver, BC’s most popular day spas has employed a group of skin athletes — taking its tag line of Personal Training For Your Skin to a new level. Five professional athletes have joined the skoah team and have been dubbed skin athletes. They represent five different areas of athletics, and will assist on the product development side along with testing potential new skoah product lines.

The quintet of jocks includes Catherine Bruhwiler, a professional surfer who learned the sport on the beaches of Vancouver Island’s Tofino; Sarah Burke, a freestyle skier who has been described as “the best skier in the world”; Robin Van Gyn, a snowboarder coach and mentor; Tommy Europe, host of The Last Ten Pounds and Bridal Bootcamp on the Slice network; and Allie Bertram, a dancer and runner-up in Canada’s So You Think You Can Dance?

“Our customers are busy, active people, and they have embraced our Personal Training for Your Skin approach to skin care,” says Chris Scott, skoah founder and president. “They can relate far more to athletes using and testing our products than to supermodels and actors.” The athletes will be involved in upcoming skoah events, interacting with customers and sharing their stories. “With the Vancouver 2010 Olympics just around the corner, we sometimes forget about some of the other routes that athletic careers can take,” said Scott.

To kick off the program, skoah has introduced a limited time Athlete Facial to generate interest in the program, and of course, to get their customer’s skin in tip top shape.

    About Me

I'm a professional freelance writer and photographer who has been in the journalism 'biz since 1988. I live on a small farm on an island in Puget Sound with my husband, chickens, turkeys and our very own field of dreams. When I'm not packing and unpacking from exploring the seven continents (yup, I've done 'em all), I enjoy theater, movies, jazz, fine food, heavenly spas and long dinner parties with my family and friends. Oh, I grew up in the '60s and I sort of remember it through the haze.
