Where is Woodstock?

Woodstock_music_festival_poster

By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration

No, I didn’t make it to Woodstock during the summer of ‘69. I was working at Yellowstone National Park with a bunch of other college kids from across the U.S. The highlight of our summer, in addition to seeing bears and bison and other wildlife, was watching Neil Armstrong’s moon landing on the lone TV in the lodge at Canyon Village.

For years I assumed that Woodstock was held in Woodstock. It wasn’t. The three-day peace and love fest was held on the other side of the Catskills in Bethel, New York. CBS Sunday Morning’s Steve Hartman reports about it here.

    About Me

I'm a professional freelance writer and photographer who has been in the journalism 'biz since 1988. I live on a small farm on an island in Puget Sound with my husband, chickens, turkeys and our very own field of dreams. When I'm not packing and unpacking from exploring the seven continents (yup, I've done 'em all), I enjoy theater, movies, jazz, fine food, heavenly spas and long dinner parties with my family and friends. Oh, I grew up in the '60s and I sort of remember it through the haze.
