inside/out is offering two new animal welfare Humanitourism™ trips in 2010 to help homeless dogs around the world. The tours include Greece in June and India in September. Both are in conjunction with International Homeless Animals Day on August 15.

That’s when organizations around the world come together on the third Saturday of each August to raise awareness about the pet overpopulation epidemic and to promote new campaigns, programs and ideas. inside/out is part of this movement, offering volunteer opportunities for people to be a part of animal welfare projects around the world.

inside’out’s trips combine humanitarian project work with active adventure travel, allowing travelers to connect locally to the people, land and culture they visit. In Greece, participants will assist in education about sterilization and abandonment and will work on care and feeding programs for the homeless dog population. In India, efforts will be focused in Dharamsala in the Himalayas, building kennels at the only shelter in the region and aiding in the development of a sanctuary for injured and homeless animals.

No special skills or knowledge are required, and inside/out is endorsed by Best Friends Animal Society, World Society for the Protection of Animals, Greek Animal Welfare Fund and the Achaia Animal Welfare Society of Greece.

    About Me

I'm a professional freelance writer and photographer who has been in the journalism 'biz since 1988. I live on a small farm on an island in Puget Sound with my husband, chickens, turkeys and our very own field of dreams. When I'm not packing and unpacking from exploring the seven continents (yup, I've done 'em all), I enjoy theater, movies, jazz, fine food, heavenly spas and long dinner parties with my family and friends. Oh, I grew up in the '60s and I sort of remember it through the haze.
