Malcolm In The Middle

ALBANY, NY - MARCH 12: State Democratic Leader...

The New York Daily News is reporting that freshly-deposed New York State Senate Majority leader Malcolm Smith, may have instigated the recent Republican coup against Democrats in the state’s senate.  Apparently, during an April policy meeting with billionaire/frequent gubernatorial candidate Tom Golisano, Sen. Smith took to constant BlackBerry interaction – repeatedly checking and sending email messages.

According to the politically influential, yet quitely perturbed Golisano, Senator Smith couldn’t resist the temptations of the nearby QWERTY keyboard:

“When I travel 250 miles to make a case on how to save the state a lot of money … and the guy comes into his office and starts playing with his BlackBerry, I was miffed.”

Golisano, after the meeting, presumably worked behind the scenes to overthrow Smith and support the defection of two Senate Democrats to the Republican side of the aisle – returning chamber control to the Republicans.

Smart phone versus the smart businessman.
