The Obama economic recovery

A picture is worth a thousand words (via Josh Marshall):

If the Democrats were smart, they’d each carry a poster-size version of this image everywhere they go — television appearances, House/Senate floor, press conferences, meetings, the bathroom…

They seem unable to articulate the fact that they averted a far-more-nightmarish depression and that the recovery package (bigger as it should’ve been) shielded millions of job losses — as any economist outside the Heritage Foundation would admit.

It’s understandable how hard it is to convince an economically struggling nation that they should be happy things aren’t worse. For the people who lost their homes, their jobs, their health care, their life savings, a graphic of any kind isn’t much of a consolation.

But Democrats have been too timid to say it was the Republicans’ elitist, Reagan-inspired leap to the right that set the stage for this recession. America hardly remembers because Democrats hardly care to remind them. How easy and powerful it would’ve been to brand this the Republican Recession.

Either way, “things could have been worse” isn’t going to save Dems in November. They need health care reform. They need a new jobs bill. They need financial reform to prevent another scenario like this.

Ultimately, Democrats need to prove they’re capable of governing. They had 60 senate votes and they looked handicapped. They’ve slipped to 59 now and there’s almost a sense that they’re back in the minority. If they don’t step up and take control they may as well prepare to relinquish power.

The entire system is corrupt, the Federal Reserve dictates when to go into a depression/recession, elections are a facade, the government is already run by all the federal offices that were created long after the revolutionary war, and every person who wanted a job would have one if the government legalized cannabis hemp so people could find work in planting/harvesting hemp or jobs building/creating any of the 35,000 products that can be made from hemp.

The brilliance of the Republicans noise machine is that they have sold just about everyone, even the Democrats, on the notion that they had 60 when Lieberman was never on their side…

Libertarian Greenspan and war for OIL Bush “economics” put the world into a Great Recession, and Ponzi scheme bogus risk reducing “financial instruments” that make slime Wall St scum wealthy. Keynsian Economic Theory will be the only thing that gets us out. The Obama Admin. has used mega Keynsian stimulus. Amerika will continue in this vicious cycle until we are a 3rd World bankrupt nation, unless Legislated Greedy Scamers and Idiot Libertarians are not controlled by an educated and enlightened populace, as in start really teaching the truth of HISTORY and KEYNSIAN Economics , in middle school thru highschool…..because very few are required to take in College!!!!

Sadly I’m gonna have to kinda agree with some of whats already been said. theres tons of data, as Mr. Kapur is fully aware, that show it doesnt matter who is in the white house in terms of economic recovery. the business cycles happen as they happen, and even if this data set is correct, it’s a mere coincidence the economy is rebounding when Obama took office (the bottom of the bottom of this recession just happen to be at the start of 2009, so of course things are gonna look up from there but it had nothing to do with Obama getting into office, things just couldnt have gotten any worse). The reason Dems arent trumping this graphic is they know our economy might be on a mend a bit but some professions are still getting killed out there (architecture, construction, legal services and many others) while luckily finance is on the mend a bit. But did the stimulus help any of this? maybe a little, but we couldve gotten a heckuva lot more bang for our buck had better policies been pursued.
