Neuro News Nanos

Spying.

Here are this morning’s:

* Coming to a menu near you — New York City style calorie counts — which may or may not have any effect on people’s eating habits

* Why we take pictures — the brain processes huge amounts of data — but the amount of information that is retained is quite small

* Are umpires racist? — yeah, a little bit — controlling for umpire, pitcher, batter and catcher fixed effects and many other factors, strikes are more likely to be called if the umpire and pitcher match race/ethnicity

* The pseudocommando mass murderer — it is typically the high-profile cases that represent the most widely publicized, yet least representative mass killings — they predate the Texas bell tower

* Somebody’s watching you — probably your spouse — in 44% of couples there was at least one partner secretly monitoring the other

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
