OddFile: Wealth = Orgasms
File this under: men’s worst fears, realized. From the study, “Partner Wealth Predicts Self-Reported Orgasm Frequency in a Sample of Chinese Women” [PDF]:
There has been considerable speculation about the adaptive significance of the human female orgasm, with one hypothesis being that it promotes differential affiliation or conception with high-quality males. We investigated the relationship between women’s self-reported orgasm frequency and the characteristics of their partners in a large representative sample from the Chinese Health and Family Life Survey. We found that women report more frequent orgasms the higher their partner’s income is. This result cannot be explained by possible confounds such as women’s age, health, happiness, educational attainment, relationship duration, wealth difference between the partners, difference between the partners in educational attainment, and regional location. It appears consistent with the view that female orgasm has an evolved adaptive function.
Whether wealthy men select more orgasmic women, somehow, or whether women respond to more desirable mates by having more orgasms remains unclear. Reporting bias seems unlikely, though, as the interviews were conducted outside of the home, away from spouses, and the women could enter their answers straight into the computer if they wanted.

“Whether wealthy men select more orgasmic women, somehow, or whether women respond to more desirable mates by having more orgasms remains unclear.”
Wrong. This is the ultimate proof that social Darwinism is truth; that the most virile and thus the most virtuous will rule us all.
Somewhat more seriously, height is weakly correlated with both wealth and penis size; whether this is true across all cultures and in China in particular is unclear. This doesn’t account for the surprisingly strong correlation in this study, though.
Another study of German and American women found that 65% reportedly had an orgasm the last time they had sex; combining the “always” and “often” responses here gives only 34%. Clearly this also means American and German men are the most virile. That study weaker but still statistically significant correlation between perceived attractiveness and the probability of orgasm.
If a man were to attempt to woo a woman with that last sentence, orgasm probability would undoubtedly plummet to zero. Unless he was loaded.
Interestingly, in the study, it says there’s no correlation between a man’s height and the woman’s orgasm — at least in that all-Chinese sample.
