Girl Studying Under a Tree

Here are this morning’s:

* How to fall six miles and survive — grab onto something — don’t land on your head

* How our parents affect what we look for in a mate — women born to “old” parents (over 30) were less impressed by youth — more attracted to age cues in male faces than women with “young” parents (under 30)

* Why high-end prostitutes make so much money — “while looks decline monotonically with age, wages follow a hump-shaped pattern” — yes, hump-shaped pattern

* People who feel more powerful lie better — having power essentially buffered the powerful liars from feeling the bad effects of lying — from responding in any negative way or giving nonverbal cues that low-power liars tended to reveal

* College-educated women are marrying well — college once hurt women in the marriage market — these days, few women feel the need to play down their intelligence or achievements

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
