Here are this morning’s:

* Power makes hypocrites bolder and smugger — the powerful reported significantly higher lottery winnings than the low-power group, even though both groups had the same odds of winning — yet more reasons to be skeptical of those in power with a taste for moralizing

* A treatment for tinnitis — find out the main frequency of the ringing sound that the patient hears — ask the patient to select their favorite piece of music and digitally cut out the frequencies one octave on either side of this target

* Sedatives for the terminally ill — the difficult decision to administer strong sedative drugs to terminally ill patients to ease their suffering at the expensive of potentially quickening their death — medicine is always a case of balancing the positive and negatives of any treatment

* Right handers sit on the right side of the movie screen — in right-handers, the right-hemisphere is dominant for processing visual and emotional input — by sitting to the right of the screen, the film is predominantly processed by the right-hemisphere

* Should scientists be more psychotic? — how science selects for perseverance and sociability at the expense of intelligence and creativity — why are so many leading modern scientists so dull and lacking in scientific ambition?

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
