Here are this morning’s:

* Why doctors shouldn’t wear neckties — perform no beneficial function in patient care — and have been shown to be colonized by pathogens

* Social science underground — subways as a laboratory for psychology — random people together in a contained, observable setting

* Autism, desperation, and untested treatments — many of these treatments are based on flimsy or non-existent evidence — they are being promoted by a subculture of parents of autistic children, who seem to overlap significantly with the anti-vaccination movement

* The paradox of choice is not robust — it is hard to find much evidence that retailers are ferociously simplifying their offerings in an effort to boost sales — Starbucks boasts about its “87,000 drink combinations,” supermarkets are packed with options

* Freakonomics backlash continues — Andy Warhol defined art as “what you can get away with” — is economics now what you can get away with?

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
