Here are this morning’s:

* Dreams from his mother — Obama’s anthropologist parent — “Anthropology shows that people who seem very different from us behave according to systems of logic, and that these systems can be grasped if we approach them with the sort of patience and respect that Dr. Soetoro practiced in her work.”

* Many mental disorders lead to suicide — not just depression — the strongest predictors of suicide attempts in developed countries were mood disorders, whereas in developing countries impulse-control, substance use, and post-traumatic stress disorders were most predictive

* A long-term study of the benefits of pre-school — 40 years on — the Perry Preschool led to permanent improvements in various personality traits, such as self-control and grit

* “Macho men” less likely to get preventative medical care — 50 percent less likely than other men to seek preventative health care services — surprisingly, men with strong masculinity beliefs in blue-collar jobs (e.g., machine operators, truck drivers, construction workers and farm workers) were more likely to report obtaining care

* A clitoral homunculus — less dirty than it sounds — still surprising

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
