Neuro News Nanos

And if your head explodes with dark forbodence...

Here are this morning’s:

* Imaging the entire nervous system — not just the brain — a technique that takes advantage of how water molecules move to separate out nerves from the rest of the body

* Facebook messes with marriage — Facebook use significantly predicts Facebook-related jealousy — a feedback loop whereby using Facebook exposes people to often ambiguous information about their partner that they may not otherwise have access to

* Can avatars help people lose weight? — respondents who reported high levels of physical activity for their avatars reported participating in high levels of physical activity in their real lives — also, being interviewed by a fat avatar made obesity seem more socially acceptable

* A malaria vaccine delivered by mosquitoes — everyone in the vaccine group acquired immunity to malaria — everyone in a non-vaccinated comparison group did not

* The “my brain crashed” excuse — we can commit unconscious acts — but it’s a little too convenient

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
