Molten chocolate and a piece of a chocolate bar

Here are today’s:

* Big chicken, big egg — overweight youth were twice as likely to have overweight friends — a strong social-network effect

* Brain response to peers’ judgment — changes between younger and older girls — not between younger and older boys

* Multitasking can be improved through training — a key limitation to efficient multitasking is the speed with which our prefrontal cortex processes information — this speed can be drastically increased through training and practice

* Are cats neuroscientists? — maybe in the same way that artists are — a little catty

* Women and chocolate — female chocolate cravings vary throughout the hormone cycle and drop off after menopause — while the cravings are not solely explained by hormone changes, some of the effect does seem to be linked

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
