Reasons Never To Fly

Captain dies mid-flight, on way to Newark (from Brussels)

Okay, it’s just my availability bias talking; flying is very safe (okay, maybe that’s my cognitive dissonance talking). But this is still ongoing. The plane will be making an emergency landing with the reserve crew.

Say a prayer.

UPDATE: The plane has landed safely.

    Much ado about nothing!

    A) there is a co-pilot
    B) there is another pilot on board

    Ryan,

You say: “Okay, it’s just my availability bias talking; flying is very safe (okay, maybe that’s my cognitive dissonance talking). But this is still ongoing. The plane will be making an emergency landing with the reserve crew.” (In reference to pilot dying midflight.)

It’s hysterical. I never thought any of these terms would start to stick let alone actually remember them. What you said is just so damned funny!

    Ryan,

    My Reasons To Never Fly:

I hate traveling, which flying means I am traveling. Say, sitting erect for “x” amount of time without a lot of water ensuring it will be days until I digest something again. Breathing re-circulated air that will leave me Asthmatic or carrying someone’s virus they were unable to check before boarding. Having my knees lock in such a fashion as to cause edema before we land guaranteeing I will not only be cripple when I get up, but my ass will be asleep too. What’s not to love? The whole damn process from the $45 cab ride on.

    Sandy

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
