Humans Caught in Money-for-Sex Scandal

The New York Times Magazine this weekend had a feature on a high-end, legal-prostitution site called SeekingArrangement.com. It’s legal because of instead of matching Johns with call girls, it links Sugar Daddies with Sugar Babies. I won’t pretend to grasp the fine legal distinctions here, but the gist of it is rich men paying beautiful young girls to be their girlfriends.

If I sound disapproving, I’m not particularly. I think prostitution should be legal. And this is really no different — just more efficient — than the normal ways rich men find female playthings.

Of course, if you read Neuroworld, you’ll see an immediate parallel to the recent meat-for-sex chimp scandal (yes, I’m going to keep calling it a scandal) covered earlier in the week.

While it may be unpleasant, this type of exchange is in many ways the basis of the entire human race. If it offends you, find another order.

    About Me

I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Brooklyn, NY. My background is mostly in politics. I've worked on the editorial boards of the New York Sun and New York Post. In 2006, I wrote a book, "The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians, and the Battle to Control the Republican Party" (Wiley). I've also done my share of freelancing, for places like the Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Reason, and RealClearPolitics.

These days, I'm interested in humanity's ever-expanding understanding of its own irrationality. Hence, this blog.
