Under the Pink Light

One of my favorite design blogs, Architectures of Control, highlights a new tactic from a residents’ association in England for driving away teenagers: hitting them with pink lights that flag their acne.
Ouch.
But it works. At least for the time being in a very small spot. (BBC has a short article and a 2-minute video at the link.)
And, it’s not the first anti-teenager device to be implemented (for some reason also in England). There’s also the mosquito, which emits an unpleasant, high-pitched sound that only those under 25 can hear.
And it’s not the only light-based behavior-control measure attempted in Jolly Old England. There’s also this program, which uses blue light to make it harder for heroin users to see their veins in public rest rooms.
Only problem with the bathroom blue lights (other than making junkies miss their veins, which isn’t actually a great thing): It apparently creates great ambiance for sex.
