Not Easy Being Green: Beer in a Bag

When does sustainability cross the line? When does jumping on the over-used, green-friendly bandwagon become just a desperate marketing tool? Let’s start with beer in a pouch. Is this really environmentally friendly? Is it even friendly, cause I think it sure looks awfully comical.

Treehugger.com tried to look beyond the silliness to see if this is a viable idea:

It’s not as durable as traditional bottles or cans, is single use without recyclability and isn’t a system that can be taken mainstream for big companies. Should it be something that went big, it would reduce the number of bottles that could be reused by homebrewers.

The article points out a few other discrepancies, including that not having this product at all would more significantly lessen our dependence on oil than having it.

What we don’t find out in the article is if the beer is tasty.

    About Me

I am a food fanatic. Sardines, raw shrimp, white anchovies are just a few things that make me happy. I love that “ah moment” when you bite into something so delicious you have to pause before you can speak. Hopefully, you know what I mean. As a former Food Network host and producer, I have been given an All Access Pass into the culinary world and count many in the food community my close friends. I applaud their passion and dedication. And, I am willing to admit, I’m a bit chef-obsessed. As a culinary junkie, I follow food stories from around the globe; I am enticed by the wonderful, the weird, the sweet, and the savory. As for my background, I've worked as a producer and/or host with NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, VH1, A Current Affair, Food Network, BBC-A, Fine Living, Showtime, Direct TV, and now, People.com.
