Glenn Beck says health care vote is an affront to God
Glenn Beck and his fellow messenger of God, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), have delivered the word from on high … a Sunday vote on health care reform is an insult to the Lord.
KING: They intend to vote on the Sabbath, during Lent, to take away the liberty that we have right from God. [...]
BECK: You couldn’t have said it better. Here is a group of people that have so perverted our faith and our hope and our charity, that is a — this is an affront to God. And I honestly, I don’t think anybody is like, “yes, and now what we’ll do is we’ll vote on the Sabbath.” But I think it’s absolutely appropriate that these people are trying to put the nail in the coffin on our country on a Sunday — something our founders would have never, ever, ever done. Out of respect for God.
Listen-
It’s difficult to know where to begin, so let’s start with the alleged offense against God by voting on a Sunday during Lent.
While I would never claim to be an expert on the subject of Christian religious traditions, I do know that Lent is intended to mark the period leading up to Easter wherein believers observe fasting (justice towards self), praying (justice towards God) and almsgiving (justice towards neighbor.) Indeed, many Christian practitioners chose to observe Lent by volunteering their time for charity work or performing other Christian acts.
I can think of no greater expression of justice towards my neighbors than supporting a measure that will allow the most unfortunate in our society – those being the very meek whom religion tells me are scheduled to inherit the earth – to finally have access to healthcare that can improve and save the lives of their families.
I don’t know about Beck’s God or King’s God, but I’m feeling pretty good that my God is not going to have a big problem with this no matter what day the vote is taken.
As for the sin of voting on a Sunday, I do seem to recall a rather well documented vote on Palm Sunday in the year 2005. That was the day the Republican controlled Senate convened and passed the controversial bill permitting a federal court to intervene in the case of Terri Schiavo.
I suspect that both King and Beck approved of that vote – and that’s fine with me. However, until I get the memo that Heaven is actually located in Representative King’s Iowa congressional district or in the bathroom of Rupert Murdock’s private G-5 jet, I hope both King and Beck will understand if I don’t turn to these two misguided hypocrites for spiritual advice.
Besides, I think we all know who is the true affront to God.

Some believe that alms/charity has to be personal and private to “count.” Public charity is looked upon as something done out of selfness, pride, false piety, whatever … and it most definitely does not “count.” There’s actually a piece that refers to this biblical logic on Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alms
People get mighty angry when you mess with their point system: no points, no heaven. Grrrr, they say, and go on to explain: there OUGHT to be tragedy and suffering and poverty, else how am I to get my points?
Meant to say also that I suspect this logic also applies to why certain conservative Christians have no problem with denying universal health care. There are those who believe this is god’s perfect plan, that he created the poor so that believers have a sure way to his side … There’s just no arguing with this nonsense …

The founders may have had a profound respect for God, but they sure were weary of religion, especially when it was used to define the truth used to persecute their countrymen. So isn’t it ironic that the party of Lincoln, borne out of that core principle of the rule of law, is now the one peddling this theocratic nonsense?
Beck’s been a roll (playing to the religious right) invoking the founders and God and marrying the two together in politics, and each time he does this the founders must spin in their graves having created the first nation based on principles and law – without a King, and most importantly, without a church.
[...] Glenn Beck says health care vote is an affront to God – Rick Ungar … [...]
Health care reform is an affront to God. Mocking an 11 year old whose mother died is cool with God. What the hell God does Beck worship?
And anyway, Saturday is the Sabbath, not Sunday.
I’m wiccan — everyday is sabbath when you believe in the Goddess.
In response to another comment. See in context »Glen Beck is an affront to God. this man has no shame and is about as evil as anyone in the political arena that I can think of… He rivals McCarthy in making me want to vomit with is vile comments about America.

If Beck paid attention to what the Bible actually says, he’d notice that even Christ “broke” the Sabbath when necessary. But of course, Beck is of a breed of “Christian” that is itself something of an affront to God — the kind who only care about God and the Bible insofar as they benefit their own agenda and presuppositions about their world. Mr. Beck, you do not speak for me, and I do not believe you speak for God. You are a self-serving jackass. Crawl back under your rock.
The 3 stooges (beck, limbaugh and palin) are like a car wreck — when you have to drive past one it is impossible not to look.
!
There is nothing these 3 do or say that I find either intelligent or entertaining and yet when someone writes something about them I just cannot friggin’ help myself — I have to read about their latest idiocy. And then I feel like the Pharisees in the church: thank you Lord for making me better than them
So they voted on the health care bill on a Sunday. My God!!! On a Sunday. How dare they work on a Sunday to give so many poor people the right to see a doctor and get prescription medication. I mean, I enjoy going to the drug store and stand next to an old lady or man, trying to figure out what they are going to do. Get their medication or buy food. Buy 2 or 3 pills and hope that the check one of their children are mailing them will arrive in time. Or walk away empty handed and pray they wake up tomorrow. Yea, and they voted on a Sunday.
Shame, shame, and more shame on the Democrates. I couldn’t believe what I was watching and hearing. I gave a big cheer when a republican stood up and declared this anti-american. Communist stooges taking over the country. I mean, even Rush said he would go to Jamica if it passes. Someone should have told him they have universal health care.
I know, deep in my heart, that every Republican thinks that every American has a right to health care and medication that the AMERICAN people needs. I mean, we already give health benefits to illegal aliens as soon as they arrive. Why would we give it to plain old american citizens who has worked here, born here, and will die here. Makes no sense to me.
Like it or not, too many of our representitive is in the hip pockets of the hospitals, drug companies, etc., that buys our so called leaders off. (Let me make this clear, these are not my words. Just something I heard).
I think, maybe, just maybe, God was in the hall of Congress and took over for a little while. Maybe he wanted this bill to pass also. Helping out the poor and disadvantage just may be a good thing he wanted to see pass.

I won’t mind if you think I’m crazy and a little off. Just may be, those who think the opposite of me, well, I just might think you are a little off too.
Old Type just keeps on typing. Thank you for the time and thank you for reading this.
Today, and everyone seems to be doing it, is taking religioin to the extreme and bending it to fit their views. Then, anyone who doesn’t agree with them are plain morons who should be wiped off the face of the earth. The muslims are doing it, and all of the Christian religions. I have been watching this happen for the last 30 years.
Am I the only one who has noticed this trend? Or am I a little paranoid about religion in general. Love they neighbor, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Let those who have not sinned cast the first stone. I’ll be happy to stand up on stage to get stoned if one, and I mean one person. can say they have not sinned. OK Mr. Beck, now is your chance. How about you Rush? When you tell me that you have not sinned, I’ll let you get 10,000 people to help you stone me.
What’s wrong with helping out your fellow man. Your own country person. Old, young and in between. It has become a sin, a disgrace, a person to avoid is they can’t afford health insurance and able to buy their own medication.
How many of our fighting soldiers are on the streets right now, hungy, and in need of medical care but can’t get. How many are so messed up in the head, because of the war, they don’t know how, or able to think it through correctly, because of PTSS.
Naw, the Republicans are right. To hell with these people. They don’t deserve medical care or medications if they can’t afford it.
Did you know that every Senator and Representative has the best insurance in the world for life once they are elected. After hours clinic, free. Medications, free. Doctor visits, free. Plus, they have it for life. Not bad for a two to four years of service. Is it no wonder so many of our elected leaders don’t care about the average Joe.
I could go on for a long time. But I think you are getting the picture.

Feel free to let me know how you feel about my comments. I am a veteran and honest to goodness patriot. I want you know that I don’t believe in God, but I am willing to die to make sure you keep that right to worship as you wish. I just didn’t know people would twist the words of the bible around to suit their needs and desires. But, that is what freedom is all about.
