Glenn Beck delivers disappointing crowds at teabag extravaganza

IMG_2504-367x275Let me put it this way -

Official attendance count at the Ohio State-USC football game – 105,000+.

Unofficial attendance count for Beck’s 9-12 protest event – under 25,000.

Despite the clown prince of conservatism’s high hopes of drawing over one million Obama-bashers to his million moron march – with more sane predictions coming in at 100,000 people- it would appear that there just wasn’t enough tea to fill the pot.

Sorry, Glenn, but reason still rules in the USA.

I don’t know…CNN had a picture that showed the streets filled with people…looked like an Obama rally.

Whatever the actual attendance was, subtract one: Glenn Beck himself was a no-show; he was ensconced in his NYC FoxNews studio. Maybe his ragweed allergy was flaring up.

Gotta say the protestors — bless their humidity-soaked, besloganed T-shirts — missed some wonderful college football games, some less than wonderful baseball games, a mini-marathon of Bear Grylls survival tips (dibs on the eyeball!), and a great PBS double bill featuring Elmer Gantry and Malcolm X.

Great article. I’ve posted on several conservative blogs that the number of addled white people that attended the “grassroots” corporate sponsored rally was less than attended the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The crowd at the memorial was more of a true cross section of our country’s human heritage than the all white crowd in DC, and those that were at the Jackson memorial were smarter too. One commentator that responded to my post said that I was mixing apples and oranges. True, fruit salad, so he got the irony of my statement after all. I though I could bury my intention of pointing out the silliness of the rally with words. How silly of me.

    About Me

I am an attorney in Southern California, and a frequent writer, speaker and consultant on health care policy and politics. To that end, I am active member of the Association of Health Care Journalists. Based in beautiful Santa Monica, California, I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to be a contributing editor to True/Slant. I've recently finished a book designed to make the health care debate understandable to the average reader, and expect it to be out in the next five months or earlier. In my 'spare time', I continue to write for television and, occasionally, for comic books.

My checkered past includes stints in creative writing and production for television where I did strange things like founding the long running show "Access Hollywood" and serving, for many years, as the president of the Marvel Character Group where I had the distinct pleasure of being one of Spider-man's bosses.
