When I came up in the ranks of national radio it was drummed into us that we had a civic duty. A duty to be fair, to inform, to be objective. Alas ... that was many years ago and times are different now.
Radio today belongs to those who shout, spew hate, degrade others, build up themselves ad nauseum and ignore any other opinion as useless. The more outrageous the comments, the better they think they're doing.
And radio programmers don't seem to realize that by clogging their airwaves with these syndicated copy-cats they've completely abrogated their responsibility to their local communities.
Sad what's happened to my industry ... both on radio and TV
