The Top 10 Destinations Of 2009? No Surprises This Year

Cabo is well known for its pristine beaches

Yahoo! Travel has posted their list of the top vacation spots of 2009, and unfortunately, there are no surprises this year. (Well, maybe seeing San Diego so high is a bit strange, but it’s not that offbeat.)

Results were based on searches and bookings done through Yahoo! Travel. Apparently Chicago and San Juan, Puerto Rico got bumped this year for Miami and Orlando.

Perhaps that’s just yet another sign of tightened travel budgets due to a bad economy. Lesser known or frequented places probably can’t offer as many bargain-basement prices like these cities, who have traditions of strong tourism, can.

The only reason I am a little taken-aback is that the majority of these cities are very expensive, not just getting to them, but hotel accommodations and attraction prices upon arrival.

  1. Las Vegas
  2. Miami
  3. Cancun
  4. San Diego
  5. Cabo San Lucas
  6. New York City
  7. San Francisco
  8. Orlando, Fla.
  9. Honolulu
  10. Paris

I’m hoping there’s more of a shake-up next year. Going and reading about the same places over and over can get boring.

Anyone go to any of these cities this year? Anyone think a particular destination is missing?

  1. collapse expand

Yes sure, Beirut. Right, bit edgy. Wouldn’t be for everyone. But still: Only two destinations outside the US, and one of them is Cancun – the place you go if you don’t know where else to go? It reads like the top ten travel spots for people who wear sansabelt trousers.
