Sears Tower To Open Scariest Tourist Attraction Yet

searsIf you really love your high views and aren’t afraid of 103 stories below you with only a few layers of half-inch thick glass to hold you up from plummeting to the sidewalk, then the Sears Tower has something for you!

The Sears Tower is offering a new way to push your fear of heights right over the edge.

A glass ledge, actually, suspended from the building’s 103rd floor Skydeck.

“The Ledge” is the nickname given to a set of glass balconies that open to the public Thursday.

Sears Tower officials say the inspiration for the balconies came from the hundreds of forehead prints visitors left behind on Skydeck windows every week.

via The Associated Press: Sears Tower to open 103rd floor glass balcony.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, tower developers believe Ledge can withstand any and every test the public can imagine. Being terrified of heights myself and barely able to make it across bridges, I don’t see myself going up there. The only bright side I can see to this is that at least its included in the admission price to Skydeck and not some extra fee for a few feet of glass. While they say it can withstand any test, it still makes me slightly nervous.

Do you think this is safe? Would you go on this deck?

Yeesh, did Six Flags get the contract from the Willets company to manage the Skydeck? What’s next, they’ll let people climb up to the observation post on top of the antenna?

Yes I think it’s safe, would I walk out on it, no friggin way!

The other advantage to glass: Easy cleanup. Because I would certainly soil myself in terror if I ever stepped out onto such a thing. I guess what I’m saying is: No, thank you.

For most Chicagoans, what’s more frightening is that soon it will be the Skydeck at Willis Tower.
