Afghan Desk Weekly Roundup

Afghan Desk is number #1

Afghan Desk is number #1

Short week at The Desk. Your Afghanistan correspondent has spent the last two days flying to the US for a good friend’s wedding and some much needed R&R. I’ll still be posting daily and am getting regular updates and photos from sources on the ground. I’ll be back in Afghanistan shortly. Now let’s get to it…

Immediately after Afghanistan’s historic vote last week, The Desk brought you images of election ‘09 and also highlighted some obstacles faced by voters, namely a crippling lack of sharp scissors.

Once the vote counting began, we explained the next step in the process and also shared some inside dope on how international election monitors will sniff out fraud.

Then, we brought the bang-bang.

Light posting over the weekend, but back with an interesting photo essay on Monday (hint: automobiles.)

    About Me

I’m a writer and reporter living in Kabul, Afghanistan. For the past four years I’ve been an investigative reporter at various Village Voice Media weeklies, and before that I worked on documentary films in New York City.

I am currently a journalism mentor and news editor for The Killid Group, a not-for-profit radio and print organization based in Kabul, with five radio stations and many bureaus throughout Afghanistan.

My writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Christian Science Monitor, Village Voice, Modern Drunkard and other fine publications.

Originally from Philadelphia, I’ve also worked in south Florida and Nashville, Tennessee.
