Update: I just read my comment and I don&#039;t think I could have written something more obvious. So, I&#039;ll try harder. I&#039;m pretty dialed-in with one of the themes &#039;The Wire&#039; was trying to establish: diminishing &#039;legitimate&#039; opportunities. That&#039;s I found heartbreaking about the series -- trying to do &#039;right,&#039; i.e. operating within the system, is futile. The system is broken. And, that&#039;s what I find so frustrating about the situation you describe.

Somehow, we&#039;re - the US - is part of a broken system in a place where we&#039;re supposed to be rebuilding.</description>
