About Me

When I moved from my hometown of Monument, Colo. to study journalism at Loyola University Chicago, I found myself forsaking my Rockies for a city in which political scandal is about as routine as eating half-foot-thick pizza with sauce on the top. Weird. Three years later, I'm finishing my degree and addicted to unearthing how political wheeling and dealings at the top impact the daily lives of me and my fellow Chicagoans.

When I'm not writing about Chicago politics for True/Slant, you can find me at Loyola's award-winning student newspaper, The Phoenix, where I am Editor-in-Chief. I have also held internships with the Chicago Sun-Times and MediaBurn.org, and worked as an intern for a Chicago Tribune writer.

But I'm still not entirely used to the pizza.

Professional

My Current Project

Working as Editor-in-Chief of the best-in-the-nation (so says SPJ) Loyola Phoenix student newspaper. I'm also working on a book project with my journalistic mentor.

My Greatest Achievement

So far:

--Breaking a story about a campus police officer racially profiling students, then watching as hundreds of Loyolans mobilized to rally against discrimination.

--Seeing the Tribune base a front-page investigative story about elevator inspections off of a class project I did.

--Working with the incredible people of Eagle Butte, SD on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation Habitat for Humanity.

More to come.

What I'm Currently Addicted To...

Learning the ukulele. Unorthodox, yes, but my hands are too tiny for guitar.

This Is Making Me Worry...

Everything. I'll admit, I'm a worrier. But I like to think fretting about the finer points of life drives me to be a more motivated and diligent reporter.

This Is Bringing Me Joy...

Discovering new and exciting words. Like "brobdingnagian."

Can't Do Without

My pointe shoes -- 12+ years of ballet still makes me unconsciously stand in 4th position when I'm waiting for the "L."
