About Me
Currently I live in Iowa, where I find a more liberal environment compared to the "Republican base" that rules in my former home state of Nebraska.
I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska, School of Journalism. Although I used to pursue a career in advertising and marketing, mainly for biotechnology companies, my career abruptly ended due to my position being "eliminated" during the first "economic contraction" post 9/11.
Since then I have never regained employment in that area in spite of an ardent job search. Instead I have been working in a wide variety of fields unrelated to my expertise, most of them $10/hr (or less) with no benefits.
For awhile I went back to college pursuing a teaching certification, where I was doing well until I became ill. Without health insurance it took several weeks before a local health clinic was able to refer me to a charitable organization that would cover my health care costs and a physician who would donate his services to my case. I refer to the past two years as "My Health Care Nightmare" and I am writing a piece that documents that experience.
I would describe my political preference as a Liberal/Progressive/Populist, now leaning towards Socialism.
