Spent the first half of my career in television, the second half in digital media. Worked mostly at companies with triangle logos: Fox Television and AOL. Covered the serious and the sensational at A Current Affair. Created online and mobile content, products and communities at AOL. A few startups and now, happily, Chief Product Officer for True/Slant. And let's not forget that "AOL after Dark" project...
I'm Known For...
My online name: Andreaitis
My last name, however, is not Itis. It's Spiegel.
How I Pay For This Wardrobe
Trust me, it hasn't been easy. Worked for free doing Saturday overnights at my college radio station, WRSU-FM. Worked for almost-free anchoring a local cable news show. And then, my big break: Nudged my way into a job on Fox Television's brand new show, A Current Affair, for a whopping $12,500 a year. I now realize my parents' silence was not from speechless pride but financial shock.
Things That Really Happened
At A Current Affair
- Overdosed on world exclusives, shocking allegations, torrid love triangles and con juans...but bounced back to help free a wrongly convicted Florida teenager.
- Used machetes to cut through the Guyana jungle as the first crew back to cover the 10th anniversary of the Jonestown massacre. I was almost crushed by a tractor wheel, then unexpectedly spent a stormy night on the Port Kaituma airstrip when it was too dark to fly out.
- Tap-danced on a conference room table to prove a point (or maybe on a dare) just as Steve Case walked by...
- Pitched AOL After Dark, a "safe" porn experience. Got pretty far along before someone up above actually said "Uh, no."
My Other Website

My Secret Ambition
To be a detective: a combination of Charlie's Angels and Columbo (minus the dingy raincoat) with some Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Puzzling things out to see how they take shape. And, ultimately, finding some shade of truth.
So, either a detective...or a soap opera actress.
