Artist Jeanne-Claude Dies at 74

The New York Times reports that artist Jeanne-Claude, wife of artist Christo, known for her fiery-hued hair, has passed away at the age of 74 due to complications from a brain aneurysm. Christo and Jeanne-Claude were responsible for many of the largest, most overwhelming, and most brilliant-colored public art projects in recent history. Together they were responsible for encircling the 11 islands in Miami’s Biscayne Bay with polypropylene pink fabric; they wrapped the Reichstag in 1995; and they erected The Gates, a  series of Gerber daisy orange gates that dotted the paths and promenades of  Central Park in New York City from February 12 to February 27 in 2005.

    About Me

I am a Brooklyn-based writer and editor covering arts and culture. I was an editor at Art & Antiques magazine, an editor at Picador USA, and an editor for a magazine about coffee and tea. On the best of days, I get to write about art, or work on fiction. My writing can be found on the Huffington Post, The Rumpus, and in Art & Antiques, Art in America, Tin House, Willamette Week, San Francisco magazine, Food Network Magazine, and Fresh Cup magazine. I also write about and promote the arts for Columbia University in New York.
