Osama bin Laden: Now in chocolate form
Vegetarian advocacy group PETA is marketing Osama bin Laden chocolates as gifts for American soldiers. Too soon?
The vegan dark chocolate bars, created by Maine’s Harbor Candy Shop, are designed to be sent as gifts to US soldiers in Afghanistan. Here’s the official copy from PETA’s blog:
I’ve heard my fair share of oxymorons, but never one as (literally) delicious and biting as this one: cruelty-free beheading.
When we heard that our troops in Afghanistan hungered for some chocolate, we jumped at the opportunity to send them some dairy-free delectable delights and even made a tastily topical design just for the occasion.
When the troops sink their teeth into our savory, vegan chocolate Bin Laden Bites, they’ll satisfy their confectionary craving while getting some sweet revenge by taking a bite out of Osama’s head.
PETA, of course, is no stranger to publicity stunts. Our personal favorites are their campaigns to rebrand fish as “sea kittens” and, of course, their eagerness to show women as sex objects in the pursuit of veganism. Hot girls, of course, are hot girls. But Osama bin Laden?
Interestingly, the Osama bin Laden chocolates are being marketed to soldiers’ families at the cost of $15 for 5 2.5 square inch pieces. The problem of families of deployed American soldiers trying to make ends meet is so endemic that food banks for soldiers have opened in military communities across America. For the price of a fifteen dollar package of five baby-size bars of PETA bin Laden chocolates, you can send a soldier 35 ounces of Snickers bars. Something tells us, bin Laden or not, they’d appreciate the Snickers more.
