Introducing Falafel Mafia

So, here goes for my first post on True/Slant.

This blog will cover Middle Eastern & North African news, culture and politics. I formerly worked as a journalist in the United States and made the decision last year to:

A) Take a break.

B) Return to academia in a foreign country that I had never visited before.

It wasn’t the most obvious move, but it’s one I don’t regret a bit.

My biographical details are elsewhere on the site. Frankly, they’re pretty damn boring. All I know is that Middle East blogging in the United States tends to focus on the same three stories over and over again. I’ll write about those, but I’ll also be writing about some of the lesser known aspects of the fine geopolitical morass that is the Middle East.
