What Do You Call a Slice of Pizza?
On the fine pizza-centric blog Slice, a reader wrote in to ask the proper lexicon for ordering up a slice of cheese pizza. Funny, because for the past year or so, my wife and I have been bickering back and forth about the proper terminology for this very situation. I say “plain slice” while she says “regular slice.” At first, we thought perhaps it was a Jersey (me) versus Long Island (her) thing, as geography often tends to play into food diction. You know, hoagie/grinder/sub/hero (not to mention my friend who calls a sandwich a “wedge” … which he is mercilessly mocked for. He is from Putnam County, NY). Our local pizza dude tends to prefer “regular” and sometimes gives me the stinkeye when I say “plain,” but until him, I’d never encountered a problem. So, it was with welcome arms that I saw we were not the only ones dealing with such confusion. So, how do you order a cheese slice? Plain? Regular? Something entirely different? Comment it up!

Geeze why is life so complicated, I used to just say ‘gimme a slice’ in Brooklyn, so what is it? Is there like 57 varieties now or what?
