The Report Card’s best month yet!

Dear Readers,

From September-December 2009 The Report Card had monthly averages of:

  • 13 posts
  • 1,265 unique readers
  • 2,679 page views
  • 8 recommendations

But in January, things took off with:

  • 10 posts
  • 4,860 unique readers
  • 7,080 page views
  • 10 recommendations

These aren’t exactly Matt Taibbi numbers, but then again, nobody has his numbers.

Thanks to Above The Law, Yahoo! Buzz, and StumbleUpon for sending thousands of readers here from their sites, and thanks to all of you who spent some of your days reading and commenting. With Race to the Top results soon to be announced and the re-authorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (aka No Child Left Behind in its most recent iteration) about to be tackled by Congress, the coming months should bring excitement and debate, and hopefully some decent commentary on it all by yours truly.

    About Me

I'm a Teach For America alum and spent three years as a high school teacher on the west and south sides of Chicago. I've conducted research on turnaround schools with a team from the University of Virginia, consulted for school districts across the country, and done work with New Leaders for New Schools, the Consortium on Chicago School Research, and DonorsChoose.org. Currently I'm finishing my PhD from UVa's Curry School of Education.

My work has been published in Education Week, the Phi Delta Kappan, and a number of academic journals, and I'm a co-author of the book Teachers' Guide to School Turnarounds. I also contribute monthly to GOOD, the website "for people who give a damn": www.good.is/community/MichaelSalmonowicz
