Knowing someone else out there must have had this thought already, I google "E.W. for Pres." to see who it might be, and WTF...up comes you! The only writer who can make me laugh instead of cry as you outine the dominant ethic of piracy that guides American business practice and the sycophants operating on their behalf in Congress, the courts, at the White House, throughout the media and the states. Gore Vidal used to do this before old age took him down a few pegs, so I was damn glad you came along, Mr. T.

What I don't understand is the incredible stupidity of the Demmies as they continue to plummet in the poles, when right in front of them is a woman with rock star potential, the kind of face, say if it were actually in charge of Treasury, or at least appointed to Undersec. in charge of creating the finance regs we need, she would immediately get face-time on all the majors (the venues of BS I don't watch) over and over again as they love her (but seldom book her as she has no real power), and is so clearly appealing to the voting women who are walking away from the Dems and white folk in general (who are also doing the GOP perp walk, dummies that they are), that she would not only win them back but add a few disgruntled old conservatives to the mix.

And all the Dems would have to do is let this woman keep speaking, only with a seat of power to speak from, and the conversation would shift where the Dems need it to be to prevent the troglodytes from regaining control of Congress. Now, this is as clear to me as it is that Atty. Gen. Holder has become an empty suit, ditto my home state Governor, Deval Patrick, and the empty rumpled suit that pretends to be Harry Reid every day.

The G-D mistake the Demmies are making is they're trying to do a rock festival with only one rock star...the O-man...and without someone else to shine alongside he's very quickly going to become Fat Elvis playing the lounge. And while I love Barney Frank, c'mon, 65% of stupid America tunes him out for being gay and/or Jewish. So we need a real co-star for Obama, and Elizabeth Warren has been the obvious choice to me since it became clear that Obama had decided to cram his cabinet with members of the most common tribe to be found in D.C., the Knownuthinuus.

So, what gives with the Dems? Are they too stupid? Too corrupt? Too much in the thrall of the conmen and women that call themselves political advisors? All of the above? Inquiring Middle Class folks want to know before they hit rock bottom and get to call themselves the New Po'.

Where do I sign up?
I heard her in 2007 and went to my broker to pull out of the markets. He talked me out of it.

I would love to see a draft movement.

I am a staunch conservative but I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Warren. Every time I hear her speak I think "I wish she were running for office". She understands the Financial Industry and Economic issues in depth but she is also able to communicate effectively with those that aren't bankers and economists. Unfortunately the system in Washington would probably chew her up and spit her out. I would love to be proven wrong.

It has been more than two months since this article was written, and about one month since the last comment. Matt, are you aware of any group that has treated Warren-For-President as more than a thought experiment? Have you written more on Warren elsewhere? Last I heard, Warren expressed no interest in politics. Is this still her position?

My sense is that Warren would have three main groups to work with: 1) progressives who focus on financial regulation, 2) disenchanted Hillary supporters who still see identity politics as important, and 3) moderate/independent Democrats who see Obama pushing on too many policy fronts when the economy needs urgent repair.

Building a voter base would require people, time and money. And the clock is running. I have heard many former Obama supporters light up to the idea of a Warren candidacy, but is this anything more than wishful thinking?

I could go for this idea, but for now, I'd be happy if she would just replace Bernanke. Or the dynamic duo of Bernanke and Geithner.

Once we recognize that all of DC stinks, we won't put so much heat on one person to change it. I don't think the founders envisioned all three branches becoming corrupted. That's what we have now. Even a bone crusher like LBJ would be lost right now unless he was handing out goodies to everyone.

He was the only one between FDR and now that ever gave two thoughts about the middle class. Alas he also gave us Vietnam. So Medicare and Civil Rights , huge achievements by themselves , are tarnished.

Can anyone thing of any legislation that was passed in the last 30 years that benefited the middle class? I really can't. Sure a little morsel of cake here and there, but nothing as substantive as Medicare.

Imagine going through all hell to try to make HCR fit a 10 year budget projection that doesn't mean shit to save 45,000 Americans from dying from lack of access to our piss poor Health Care system while cavalierly signing off on 680 Billion in Defense appropriations. That's no change there.

If they left a 100 billion in change then that would have been one less excuse for this HCR bill not getting through. Then we would be treated to Susan Collins whining about the Maine shipyards not getting destroyers to build that the navy doesn't want at 3 Billion a crack.

They are all bad. If they don't participate then the silence is complicity.

That's why Barack Obama will do one term and be gone. He surrounded himself with ambitious young people like himself who are headed for their pay off in the private sector. They don't give a shit. He had a hell of an election team, then he had a lousy transition team and ended up with corrupt advisers that purposely keep guys like Volcker locked out of policy meetings.

The end result is Wall Street is gaining more and more power and the banks are starting to slowly cave in under the weight of 300,000 foreclosures a month. In one year we will be back to 2008 again. No one person can change this. The American people can but they neatly divided us so we really can't.

I saw my next door fricking neighbor on TV at the teabaggers convention in DC. They were interviewing her. Recently she was telling me she works for a fast growing hospital who's CEO just got a huge 8 figure bonus. Then they all got 10% pay cuts and a increased premium on their health insurance.

Yeah, she had a shit load of reasons to be there. We are just a bunch of dumb fucks yelling at each other as the assholes in DC and Wall Street laugh and point. We get what we deserve. Nothing. No one is asking for a hand out, we are just asking for them to obey the fucking laws they wrote and stop stealing us blind.

That just asking a little bit too much.

This post inspires me to fantasize about a dream team to govern the United States of America. In my fantasy, I go a bit further than nominating a president. I redefine the position of President and appoint the person to the office. I think outside the box of the U.S. Constitution. This allows me, among other things, to dispense with the thorny question of a Supreme Court’s personnel. I’m just not interested in judicial bigwigs.
My U.S.A. Dream Team:
-The Liaison to the People (aka The President): Barack Hussein Obama.
I’ve decided to keep Obama where he is. He’s a great communicator and a good orator. When he’s campaigning. Alas, Obama is no Lincoln. Neither can he aspire to stand in FDR’s shadow. But he can write and deliver terrific speeches about wonderful policies. The actual making of those policies is not his forte.
-Treasurer: Ellen Hodgson Brown.
Ms. Brown knows money. All that there is to know about money. She’s written the book on money (Web of Debt). Another plus: she’s never worked on Wall Street. I am confident that Ellen Hodgson Brown will ensure that money be of the government, which will go a long way in keeping money out of the government.
-Chief Administrator: William Jefferson Clinton.
Let’s bring this Clinton out of retirement. Say what you may, he is a superb administrator and executive; when he’s on his game and is undistracted by stuff like…policy wonkery. Clinton came pretty darn close to having all the trains leave the station on time.
-International Relations: Jimmy Carter.
The time has long since passed to bring this former President back. Carter is a proven peace-maker. Period.
-The Office of People’s Affairs (not to be confused with an Office of Consumer Affairs): William K. Black, Elizabeth Warren, Brooksley Born.
It takes a triumvirate to play this important position. Notice the difference between viewing people as people rather than as consumers. This important new office will not hide behind Rajaratnam’s $20 million(?) smoke screen while watching Madoff’s $50 billion(?) conflagration.
-Legislation: A Progressive Caucus, including Dennis Kucinich, Marcy Kaptur, Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson, etc.
Don’t we want to progress as a people, as a nation? So why not have laws written by progressives? Not conservatives! What is so great about the status quo that deserves to be conserved? I think progressives can be trusted to conserve what is useful while progressing into the future.
-Agriculture and Environment: Michael Pollan.
I’ve joined these portfolios because if the land is able to produce food in a sustainable fashion, the environment is capable of sustaining humans. Being a mere writer, Pollan’s fingernails are too clean for this important position. But having produced an encyclopedic tome (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) about food systems, he no doubt knows who has the requisite dirt underneath their fingernails and will hopefully bring those people into the game.
-Energy and Transportation: Al Gore.
Again, a combined portfolio. Energy cannot be remade without revamping transportation. Gore, for better or worse, is the only person who comes to mind.
