Apple iPhone and Android take the lion’s share of U.S. smartphone Internet traffic

The astronomical rise in smartphone usage over the last few years has triggered some new trends in terms of how we use our devices. Since our phones are more like computers than anything else, mobile Internet usage has skyrocketed. Taking a good share of the market, iPhone and Android together are head-and-shoulders above everyone else. The iPhone accounts for 55% of U.S. mobile traffic with Android coming in at a rather distant second place with 20% of the market. Outside of the U.S., the iPhone makes up 50% of mobile Internet traffic and usage – amazing when you consider the fact that Symbian is still the number one mobile OS in the world and the likes of BlackBerry and Windows Mobile have been around for much longer. For now, it doesn’t seem like the other competitors are going to make a dent in the iPhone’s and Android’s data dominance.
