Burglar logs onto Facebook in victim’s house, forgets to log out

Technology and the web has always had its ups and downs, but this time it gave us a little bit of both. 19-year-old Jonathan Parker of Pennsylvania is sitting in a jail cell right now cursing himself for his Internet addiction while his victims are probably thankful for it. You see, Jonathan decided he’d burglarize a home and steal a couple of diamond rings. While he was there, he figured he’d also check his Facebook account – why not, right? Since most of us check our social network accounts on our own computers, it’s a habit to just leave or close a browser without logging out, just like Jonathan did! Some folks are trying to decide whether this was just a plain, dumb robbery or a case of serious Internet addiction. Why can’t it be both?

Update: It looks like Parker didn’t act alone, and didn’t act against a complete stranger!
Parker entered through a bedroom window and ransacked two diamond rings worth more than $3500. The victim’s computer was in the same room as the rings, so maybe after he was through Googling “best escape routes,” Parker bopped onto his Facebook page. The victim also noticed that she and Parker had a mutual friend who later confessed to assisting with the crime.

This is amazing. He should he have realized that his fingerprints would be all over the keyboard (unless he was wearing gloves). Maybe he wanted to update his status as “robbing a house, got some diamond rings.”
Thank goodness that Facebook is no longer limited to Ivy League users. We likely wouldn’t get great stories like this one.
(Forgive me in advance if Parker turns out to be a UPenn student.)
What about the 12 people who liked the burglar’s post????
