Work.Life in images

Here at Work.Life, we’ve realized that looking good matters. So, for the past two years, Liz and I have been working with a talented illustrator for everything that has to do with our work-life research and writing– basically, he has made our ramblings look good. The person behind the pen is Gustaf von Arbin, a Swedish illustrator and art director.

Below are two of my personal favorites. The first is a rendition of what it can feel like to be an employee in American today. The second is Gustaf’s interpretation of me and the daily battle I carry on with myself when it comes to life choices– interpret as you see fit…

Both of the above illustrations express what this column is fundamentally about: work, life, and how in the world they mix. Gustaf is also a Gen Y:er like Liz and I, and we like to promote our generational own.

You can read an interview with Gustaf and see more of his work here.

About

We’re two twenty-somethings who joined the real world armed with diplomas worth a combined half million dollars from Middlebury College—only to find out that we didn’t have a clue. No one prepared us for the inflexibility of the whole workplace set-up. No one warned us that the Mommies were at War, or that employers still assumed men were okay seeing their kids every other week, or that the U.S. doesn’t guarantee paid parental leave, vacation, or sick leave. The current work-life model isn’t working. Let’s talk about it.

In 2007, we started a non-profit called The Lattice Group, which aims to bring awareness about work-life issues to young people, so if you can’t get enough of our musings on True/Slant check out http://thelatticegroup.org.
