Roman Polanski gets bail
A Zurich court has accepted director Roman Polanski’s request to be released from prison for a $4.5 million bail, the Associated Press reports.
The plan would place Polanski under house arrest at his Swiss chalet, where he would be monitored electronically until the Swiss government decides whether or not to extradite him to Los Angeles. He will remain in jail until the country’s Justice Ministry decides whether it will appeal the decision to the Swiss supreme court. Polanski has said he will fight extradition.
The Los Angeles Times notes that “Swiss authorities have said Polanski would face as many as two years in prison if he is returned to Los Angeles.”
