Sick of turkey? Check out this Asian foodie blog
If your house, like mine, reeks of turkey stew because you’re too damn cheap to throw away the leftovers, you’re probably wishing a Food Fairy would fly you away to a land where the cuisine is exotic, delicious and has absolutely nothing to do with cornbread stuffing and canned cranberries.
I know just the thing. A Tiger in the Kitchen is just about the best-looking Asian food web site I’ve checked out. My friend Cheryl Tan began the site after writing an essay in the Wall Street Journal, where she’s a fashion (!) reporter, about learning to cook her native Singaporean food. A publisher called her with an offer to publish a book on the subject (which, by the by, is the same way my book on funerals came about).
Cheryl’s now headlong into her reporting for the book, which according to her frequent Facebook postings appear to involve traveling to Singapore and Hawaii to learn the tricks of the trade as well as sampling the best of New York City restaurants. I’d like to point out that my book reporting involved crashing funerals. Of the two of us, who do you figure has brains?
Anyway, Cheryl launched a blog to track her reporting, figuring — brilliantly — that many a web surfer is addicted to Asian food porn. The photos of pho and lime coconut cake (and the cornucopia above) are alone enough of a reason to check this site out.
