Palin denies she had affair with Mark Sanford
Sarah Palin vigorously denied tonight that she resigned as Alaska governor after learning that rumors were about to surface linking her romantically with South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.
“These darn gossip things going around are falsely accused of me by political enemies with an underhandedly devious mind frame,” she said by telephone from her home in Juneau, where she was smoking caribou haunches for a traditional July 4th family barbecue.
“I categorically deny the entire basis of their credibility.”
Rumors had surfaced earlier in Columbia, S.C., that Sanford had shouted out the window of his office to a passing TV truck that he had “developed a crush on Sarah” after she campaigned in his state last fall and he bumped into her on the podium during a rally. “She was soft and feminine and her ample bosom brushed accidentally against my manly chest,” Sanford was caught yelling on tape, “but in a traditional, God-fearing Republican kind of way, not like some slutty liberal. Any red-blooded governor would’ve been aroused and I’m nothing if not that.”
Asked about wild speculation swirling around the Internet following her surprise resignation announcement, Palin said, “Gosh, it’s just getting crazy as a banana peel out there, I’m tellin’ ya. Some guy on a blog newspaper even said I resigned so I could go to the Michael Jackson memorial. How dumb is that?”
