Franken heads for DC as GOP attacks him on Senate absenteeism

Minnesota Democrat Al Franken’s attendance record in the U.S. Senate was criticized as “abysmal” today by leading Republican politicians and pundits.
“He’s missed one crucial vote after another,” said Edwin F. Carmody, vice chairman of the Middle-Aged Republicans for Christ, a leading right-wing organization.
“He’s shown no interest in the business of the Senate and no responsibility to the voters of his state. He’s just been sitting at home in Minnesota twiddling his thumbs during this whole Congressional session.”
Contacted in Minneapolis, the former Saturday Night Live comic admitted he had not spent a day in the Senate this year but claimed that was because of a contested election that was working its way through the courts.
“Today the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in my favor and I had my secretary make reservations for Washington on Jet Blue,” Franken told reporters. “I’m looking forward to finally taking my seat.”
“Oh, sure,” Republican party leader Rush Limbaugh told listeners on his syndicated radio talk show, employing the deadly sarcastic wit for which he is celebrated. “And I’m Queen Marie of Romania.”

In response to another comment. See in context »Well, I believe that Rush Limbaugh is a queen. He says that he is and I’m sure he meant it. George W. Bush once remarked that he was a ‘Texas girl’. I’m sure he meant that as well. Senator Al Fraken (D) Minnesota, sounds about right.
